We print flexo and gravure, and which one suits a job comes down to the run length and the artwork.
Flexo is the right process for shorter and medium runs and for solid, confident colour. Plate cost is lower, so it stays economical at volumes where gravure would not, and it handles blocks of brand colour, type and line work cleanly. Most launches and most private-label work run flexo.
Gravure holds the finest detail and the most consistent colour over a long run. Where the artwork carries photographic imagery, fine gradients or subtle tonal work, or where the same pack is printed repeatedly over a long period and colour drift between runs would be visible on shelf, gravure is the process that holds it.
On laminated structures we reverse print: the ink is applied to the inside face of the outer film and then trapped between the layers of the laminate. The artwork is sealed inside the pack, so it cannot scuff, scratch or rub off through filling, distribution and handling, and it keeps its gloss under the outer film. Some monolayer structures are surface printed instead, with the ink on the outside — that is the correct approach for those films, and we will raise it when it applies to your pack.
